About

For those who know me, they would probably tell you I’m the least likely person to run a blog but life has a funny way of dropping things in your path that suddenly make you change course. For me it was the combination of having a child and becoming more aware of my impact on the planet, and more specifically what I’m leaving for the little one I’ve only begun to know.

Shortly after my daughter was born I started to become enlightened to topics of peak oil, mass consumption, external costs and many, many other topics. As I read more I grasped a better understanding of my individual impact on the planet, I also grew to learn that we as a species are consuming much more than the earth can provide. Yet the majority of us remain blissfully unaware (or perhaps willingly so) of our real impact.

It really hit home for me when I heard the following:

“We are leaving a terrible legacy of poison and diminishment of the environment for our grandchildren’s grandchildren, generations not yet born. Some people have called that inter-generational tyranny, a form of taxation without representation, levied by us on generations yet to be.

It’s the wrong thing to do.” - Ray Anderson

So this lead me on a journey of questions and learning. First I began by learning about peak oil, what it was and what we could do, this lead to sustainability, then food consumption creation and distribution, then social issues, green building technology and so on and so on… For months I consumed information about every topic I could find. If it somehow allowed us to live a better, low impact lifestyle and if it gave us the ability to leave a better place for our kids; I wanted to learn.

When you take the time to consume all this information it changes the way you see your place in the world, in fact, it changes how you see your world. After months of emailing like minded friends with links after links, it was suggested to me to start a blog. At first I resisted, but after time I had so many people on my mailing list it simply made sense.

So here I am, this blog  is one of my ways to take action and make change happen. I write about any and every topic from food cultivation, to peak oil.  From consumer issues, to politics. But the overall umbrella is sustainability in every sense, and the goal is to get people talking and thinking about what kind of world they want this place be. Hopefully this will give  another person the confidence to stand up make a difference in their community.
